Mumbai: E-commerce giant eBay to train women entrepreneurs about skills of competitive pricing, branding, designing of hand-crafted products as well as how to leverage digital commerce.
In the first instance of the Government to team up with an e-commerce major to further its empowerment scheme, the Ministry of Women and Child Development joins hands with e-tailer eBay to support economically weak women entrepreneurs to grow on a global market.
The ministry headed by Mrs. Maneka Gandhi will not just identify and train women but also equip them to establish their ‘e-shops’ on eBay and reach-out to customers.
According to senior officials, a formal agreement between the ministry and eBay is to be signed later this month. Under this programme, the company commission will not exceed 4% and also the products prepared as well as displayed on eBay’s site will carry a unique identification sign of “Women of India”.
In this scheme for socio-economic empowerment of Indian women, the RMK (Rashtriya Mahila Kosh), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development will be responsible to identify such women from across the nation and will also act as the interface between eBay and these women.
