Glimpses of a normal working day of a digital marketing professional.

For this week’s feature, we connected with Ketan Kanetkar from Indiabulls Ventures Ltd. to know how he spends his day and what keeps him going in the digital marketing space.

Here’s a glimpse of his professional life for you all.

  1. How does your normal working day look like?

At the start of the day, I get to be the Analyst reviewing reports shared from the agency figuring out anything unfamiliar. As the day progresses, the Media Planner in me decides to take matters into my own hands, giving informed feedback that adds value to bring in more business to the brand.

Reaching out to the sales teams for feedback on the quality of the leads helps a lot as the Excel reports don’t always show the true picture. Internal and external meetings are the usual norm for the day in the second half. Some amount of time is also spent in going through the newsletters that I have in plenty, comprising meaningful digital literature from a plethora of websites. Consolidation is an important part of the day wherein I check what I have and could have done for the day. Like most of us, even I have the emails configured, so the story goes on.

  1. What are the most helpful tools according to you that help you get the job done efficiently?

Microsoft Excel and Picasso like skills on MS Power Point. Rest of it is just fooling around with data till you arrive at the point that you are trying to prove or disapprove.

Google Analytics is the key to unlock a lot of different problems and opportunities, only if you can do it the right way with relevant metrics applicable to the brand.

  1. How did you get into digital marketing? What do you love about your job?

At the start of my career, I was in into Media Sales. I consider this as one of the safest routes that can possibly land you in a digital marketing agency.

Any changes or suggestions made by me in our marketing strategies have a direct impact on the Sales front. Thus, knowing that I have a small fraction of contribution in the overall scheme of things is a big deal for me.

  1. Tell us about your hobbies. What do you do to unwind from the busy working life?

I am a Motorcycle enthusiast and I take it as a holy duty to keep my 3 bikes running in the best shape possible. I ride 7 days a week. Daily commute of around 78 KMS for work is what I treat as a workout nowadays. I was into heavy muscle building at one point in time, now I use them as my Throwback Thursday fodder for Instagram. Being Healthy is the key. Work and Money can wait but not your health. Now a days Table Tennis is being promoted big time, if you can play it the right way, you won’t need anything else.

  1. Any advice for people who want to get into this dynamic digital marketing space?

Starting early has its own advantages, the learning curve with some of the well-known agencies is massive. Platforms like Google Analytics Academy are an immense source of knowledge when it comes to understanding and learning digital marketing.

Even if you start your career with media sales and aspire to work in a digital marketing agency, feel free to harness your network of people for whom you have worked with and delivered quality results. They can surely come as a big help someday and make you jump the queue in select cases.
